How does Hemachromatosis affect male fertility?

josephc57 - September 20th, 2010 4:02 AM

this is when the body produces too much iron. this causes the body to deposit the iron in the testes causing infertility issues.

Does this makes a man impotent? What's the best solution for this kind of problem?

There is really no specific solution about this kind of problem. But just to make sure, ask the expert..

I think it can occur as a result of disease or damage to the pituitary gland, the testicles or the hypothalamus.

this is quite easy to treat. usually excess iron is removed through phlebotomy (or removing a pint of blood or two twice a week for several months) after this, the disease is managed through proper diet and nutrition.

I saw this years ago in HouseMD. The kid was irritable and his fingers were bent and stiff. Of course the exagerate for the TV show but you get a fair idea of the disease.
