What is a hamster test and how is it related to male infertility?

Gizelle - August 26th, 2010 3:29 AM

this is the test used to see if the sperm is able to successfully penentrate the egg. hamster zona-free ovum test (HZFO test)is called so because they use hamster eggs instead of a human ova. don't worry, there is no fertilization!

hahahaha... human sperm can only fertilize human egg... One of the safeguards of nature.

BTW, why are some sperm unable to penetrate an egg?

NadineChoo - August 28th, 2010 6:23 AM

I think this is one of those "defective" sperms. Some men because of factors seem to produce sperm that are misshapen or have low motility. Others have low sperm count.

This test measures the ability of the sperm to penentrate the barriers surrounding the ovary in order to successfully fertilize the egg. The more sperm that are able to penentrate, the better it is for the guy's swimmers.

Can an overly round sperm be made healthy? I.E. correct the shape?

Isnt having rounded sperm heads a genetic defect in the man? What i mean to say is that it is hereditary?

a kind of test which we should know the quality and condition of the sperm.
