What are Advantages of blastocyst transfer for IVF?

kissybusymissy - October 30th, 2010 2:29 AM

at this stage it is easier to pinpoint which embryos are healthy. this gives the blastocyst a better chance of implantation during ivf. usually day 5 embryos have better chance of implantation than day 3 ones.

I have heard of the day 5 transfer too. At this stage there are already two cells. One that becomes the fetus and the other one that becomes the placenta. This has better chance of implantation according to my sources.

blastocyst transfer can be hard to do. it is also possible that you lose some ebryos during the procedure and blastocysts are difficult to freeze.

what about day 3 blastocysts? are they successful too?

I think with day5 it has more chances of surrvival and implanting inside the womb compared to day3.

Ive read that usually blastocysts are transfered on either day 3 or 5. However I think day5 has more success rate.
