What sort of seafood is OK while TTC?

Chester - September 19th, 2010 5:43 PM

Seafood is rich in protein and iodine which the body needs for optimum function. With seafood, its just best to be wary about mercury poisoning. So be sure that you dont get contaminated sea foods. however, stay away from raw seafoods like sushi.

Yes. Chester is right. All sea foods that are rich in protein and iodine are ok but just be very careful because some has lot of stored mercury in it which is also dangerous when eating too much.

how do you know that seafood has mercury in it?

mycah - September 28th, 2010 10:30 AM

Well, it's because nearly all fish and shell fish and sea foods have traces of mercury..I have read that one in a certain article.

Actually, not all sea foods aren't off limits. Most fish and shellfish other than those high in mercury, are safe for unborn babies and offer lots of low-fat proteins and omega-3 fatty acids, both crucial for the health of both the mother and the baby inside her.

I think sea foods are not that bad as what you think regarding conceiving. As long as you don't eat too much of those with mercury content sea foods.

Shrimp is good and OK to eat while TTC.

I think not all sea foods are bad but just limit your intake of it especially if you are into TTc.

I have read an article that there is nothing wrong in eating fish during pregnancy or if you are TTC. It also helps your baby grow smarter.
