they say that it is best to take pregnancy supplements even though you're not pregnant yet. is this really alright? what do you think?

What are pregnancy supplements but vitamins and minerals? It is essentially the same as the supplements most people take.

The difference, I believe, lies on the "package" built particularly for that mom-to-be. She may be deficient in other vitamins/minerals so a suitable boost for that in particular is beneficial.

Vitamin A for example has two common forms - Retinol and Beta-Carotene. Retinol is from animal sources while Beta-Carotene is from plants. While both are good for the body, expecting moms are recommended to lessen on Retinol because it is known to casue birth defects to the baby when taken in huge doses.

I think it is good to take these kinds of supplements. You are already making your body welcome to the baby. So its already a baby friendly environment even without the "future occupant".

It is better to always err on the side of caution. Be healthy for your baby so that you can nurture it to the best of your ability while he is in your womb. Taking supplements before conceiving would make sense IMO.
