It is what we call Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis, it is a technology that permits the genetic testing of the embryo. It screens embryo for certain diseases to make sure that parents with a history of genetic defects can have a healthy baby.

PGD is a technique one or two cells removed from a blastocyst which is generated by in vitro fertilization.

Is this required if the embryo is not donated? i.e. they're my ours?

SuperMom - October 11th, 2010 3:49 AM

Isnt this SOP should you decide on a donated embryo?

It will help couples to avoid the risks of having offspring with a genetic disorder and be able to have a healthy child without undergoing a prenatal diagnosis and the possible termination of pregnancy.

it's practical if you use donated sex cells or embryo. this way you know that the baby is free of genetic diseases.

Really? What do couples need to do to avail the donated sex cells or embryo?
