How true is it that a DNC increases the chances of getting pregnant?

Warren - August 25th, 2010 12:44 PM

I'm sorry, but i think i've gotten behind about this matter kindly explained what is the meaning of DNC?

LukeNight - August 26th, 2010 3:02 PM

I also don't know about DNC. Is it not DNA- the chemical basis of inheritance? If it is, then, it is about a hereditary materials in the nuclei of white blood cells and sperm cells.

It's supposed to be D&C = dilation and curettage. Its a procedure the scrape the uterus of the uterine lining.

I don't think it's true. I had a D&C but still no baby. Second baby I mean.

Lainie - August 30th, 2010 2:09 AM

I heard about this about D&C. Something about making the womb baby friendly after the procedure.

To: Lainie

This is a common misconception about D&C. It's not true though. During the procedure, the old lining is just scraped away so as not to expose the lining to estrogen. Too much estrogen exposure can mutate the lining and cause endometrial cancer.

Not true. In fact you are asked to abstain from sex after a D&C. Of course you are going to have bleeding after the surgery but until after the bleeding stops, you cant have sex.

I dont think so. D&C is the scrapping of uterine lining. I dont see how you can get pregnant more easily just because your uterus got scraped. I think this is a misconception or old wives tales.

o_OGilmoreGirl - October 24th, 2010 3:41 AM

it's a myth. I had a DNC two years ago after I miscarried and we are still not pregnant!

kissybusymissy - October 27th, 2010 2:20 AM

had a D&C twice after I miscarried each time and nada.

I think this is an old wive's tale. D&C involves scraping the uterus so I dunno how it could possible increase fertility. A botched job could even leave you with scars...

Gizelle - October 30th, 2010 2:37 AM

Yeah, well my mother kept telling me that it would increase chances. I also consulted with a doctor and they confirmed that it would make no difference.

thanks for all who posted and answered my question! good luck to us all who are TTC ;D
