This new method is called sperm-ubiquitin tag immunoassay or SUTI. Scientists have found out that sperm cells have a protein called ubiquitin, which is an indicator of damage or dfect. SUTI uses ubiquitin antibodies to screen sperm, allowing scientist to recognize a wide-range of sperm defects and contaminants in the sperm.

Wow... that's a mouthfull to say. No pun intended... LOL!

So this is one of those indicators that can help identify male infertility?

Its good then that they found this method of preserving sperm cells. For men with sperm problems procedures like this makes things easier.

Please share some sperm defect or the contaminants you mentioned. Where does a male get these contaminants?

Guinevere - October 13th, 2010 3:58 AM

that's a long name! at least with this test we dont get defective sperm!

jedimaster745 - October 15th, 2010 3:04 AM

sperm with defects are sometimes unable to penetrate the outer layer of the egg. this is why getting pregnant is hard.

What an info..It's good that there's this study who can be able to detect sperm defects. It's already easy to identify male problems of infertility.

Technology has made everything more convenient. Its screening processes like these that help give parents healthy babies.

Isnt this in the washing of the sperm? I thought that before sperms are used, they are washed first?
