We all know that smoking can cause sperm problems in men. But what about chewing tobacco?

.:Marie:. - September 5th, 2010 2:27 AM

Since it is a tobacco product then I suspect that it has the same effect as smoking. I expect that the chemicals chewed in the tobacco would travel in the blood stream and affect sperm production in the testes.

This is a disgusting habit. My FIL used to chew tobacco and would spit frequently. bleeech....

He had 3 kids during his lifetime. Im not saying it did not affect his sperm count coz there's no way of knowing that right now. But he did die of throat cancer. So obviously, there's nothing good about chewing tobacco.

My parents are from the south too where this practice is still prominent despite the obvious dangers.

IMO, it is better for men - and women - to err on the side of caution. It's tobacco for cripe's sakes!

if you want to conceive, lay off the bad habits. this includes drinking alcohol and drugs too.

As I analyze it can affect the sperm of some men, it depends upon the resistance of the individual. Because there are people who are not visually affected but there is also.

Anything tobacco related is not good. Second hand smoke, the smoke itself, smoking and chewing tobacco. no matter how you see it, nicotine is still present which is detrimental to health.

A recent study found that chewing tobacco in men is related to a decrease in overall sperm quality (including count, motility and form).

The health risks of using smokeless tobacco (such as chewing tobacco and snuff) are well documented within various sources of medical literature, recent studies have contributed to a clearer knowledge of the effects of smokeless tobacco on sperm.
