Couples should avoid conception during cancer treatments because it may have birth defects. They should use some contraceptives when having sex. In what other situations it is needed to avoid conception?

In situations when the mother is incapable of bearing the child in the womb. This may result to ectopic pregnancy which is dangerous too.

Isnt it SOP for doctors to advice their patients undergoing chemo or radiation therapy not to get pregnant during this time?

Chemo and radiation alone is hard on the body. It kills all antibodies, cancer cells and renders the immune system defenseless. Add pregnancy to the mix and you get a molotov cocktail.

I thought it was SOP too. Doctors should inform their patients of the pros and cons of getting treatment. Chemotherapy can damage reproductive organs and the same is true with radiation therapy and both are accepted treatments for most cancers.

Yes, i believe that cancer treatments can really cause negative effect to certain parts of the body. That's why pregnancy should be avoided during times of treatment because of the harmful effect it can possibly give to the fetus.

Should avoid conception if the mother got sick for along time, and medication is possible for her.

The one who should avoid conception is the person who have mental incapacity, mongoloid,or any other hereditary mental disorder.
