What is A Semen Analysis Test?

A semen analysis test evaluates sperm count; it is performed by obtaining a semen sample.

The sample can be obtained either by ejaculation into a sterile container or can otherwise be obtained through intercourse using a special condom provided by your doctor or fertility specialist.

In order to achieve accurate results, the sample must be evaluated within two hours of collection. The earlier the sample is evaluated, the more accurate the semen analysis results.

Preparing for A Semen Analysis Test

In order to prepare for this male fertility test, you must not engage in sexual activity that causes ejaculation for 2 to 3 days prior to the test.

Semen Analysis Test Results

A semen analysis test evaluates the volume, number and structure of sperm, as well as sperm movement (motility).
