Lifestyle

When it comes to getting pregnant, your lifestyle choices can greatly impact your fertility. Therefore, it is essential to make healthy lifestyle choices in order to improve your chances of getting pregnant.

Lifestyle Factors and Your Odds of Getting Pregnant

The following lifestyle factors can greatly reduce your ability to get pregnant:

  • Smoking. Smoking presents a major risk to not only your overall health and well-being, but also to your reproductive health. Smoking decreases your ability of getting pregnant because it interferes with your body's ability to absorb vitamin C and zinc
  • Drugs. Drugs can also affect women's reproductive health. Both over-the-counter and illegal drugs affect the body's natural functions as well as impair nutrition. These effects can greatly reduce a woman's ability to get pregnant
  • Exposure to Chemicals and Pesticides. A high exposure to chemicals and pesticides can also compromise your reproductive health and hinder your chances of getting pregnant. Women who are trying to conceive should limit their exposure to pesticides and chemicals like garden weed killers, dry cleaning fluid and household cleaners as much as possible
  • Stress. Stress can have a major impact on women's fertility and can greatly reduce her ability to get pregnant. The importance of a positive attitude is essential when trying to get pregnant, as stress can have a negative effect on a women's reproductive health
  • Weight. Being both overweight and underweight can impair a woman's odds of getting pregnant. Being underweight often leads the reproductive system to shut down because of the body's inability to maintain a pregnancy. On the other hand, being overweight or obese also reduces a woman's chances of getting pregnant. Studies have found that a weight loss of just 10 pounds can improve an overweight or obese woman's odds of getting pregnant. In order to maintain a healthy weight while getting pregnant, follow a healthy, balanced diet. Your weight can be affected by a variety of poor lifestyle choices, such as smoking, stress and drug use
  • Exercise. Staying physically fit is also essential when you're trying to get pregnant. Moderate exercise, such as walking or swimming three times a week for a period of thirty minutes a day is an excellent way to reduce stress, control weight and regulate hormone levels. However, it is important to note that excessive exercise is unhealthy and can impair your ability to get pregnant

Above all, a healthy, active lifestyle will keep you happy and physically fit and improve your chances of getting pregnant.
