The term erectile dysfunction encompasses a range of disorders, but it most commonly refers to the inability to achieve adequate erection for sexual activity. It may be a sign of physical or emotional problems.

Erectile dysfunction may be a first warning sign of a more serious underlying disorder. Like diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney, liver, or hormonal disorders, or atherosclerotic diseases, such as coronary artery disease.

It can make the sexual intercourse frustrating and it is also used to describe other problems that interfere with reproduction.

Erectile dysfunction as i know of, is a term used to describe a total inability to achieve erection. This really frustrating and very disappointing in the part of men who are having this problem.

this sort of illness makes it doubly hard for the couple to get pregnant. Not only are you dealing with an illness you are also dealing with emotions like depression, guilt, insecurity and the like.
