What is Zygote Intrafallopian Transfer (ZIFT)?

.:Marie:. - September 13th, 2010 12:55 AM

We have looked into this as one of our options should we run out of natural methods and if IUI does not work. Zift is like a combination of GIFT and IVF. But instead of transfering an embryo to the uterus, it is transfered to the fallopian tubes.

Doctors believe that it has a higher success rate compared to GIFT as it has more chances of being fertilized in the fallopian tube than the uterus.

The catch: the woman's tubes need to be healthy for this to work.

ahhh... well there's always a catch isn't it.

compared to IVF, does it have a better chance of success?

It depends from case to case. Zift isn't for women with fallopian tube issues. IVF on the other hand can work with women with fallopian tube problems as the embryo is deposited in her uterus. Age also plays a big factor in both procedures.

Why does it have more chances of developing into an embryo if it is in the fallopian tube?

I think it is better that they divide in the fallopian tube so that by the time they reach the uterus, they are ready to implant.\

anyway, do you know how much this procedure costs? I mean is it more expensive/cheaper than IVF?

TO: RamsesIII

zift actually costs more than ivf because of the surgical procedure involved. On the average it costs $15K to $20K per pop. If your insurance does not cover the procedure, then you will be required to pay for the full amount out of your own pocket. :(

isnt this like TET or tubal embryo transfer?

and wow! that's expensive!!!

It sounds so risky..I'm afraid it will give risks rather than treats..and also it's very expensive don't know if I can afford it.
