how can Turner Syndrome affect fertility in women?

Sybil - April 11th, 2011 2:53 AM

"It is the result of a chromosomal abnormality in which a female infant is born with only one X chromosome (instead of two) or is missing part of one X chromosome."

I got that from kidshealth. it is usually treated with hormones or in some cases women with this condition are able to get pregnant via ART.

so instead of having xxx chromosome the woman only has xx. yikes!

XXX is more chromosomes actually. Female sex chromosomes is written as XX and male as XY. TS or Turner Syndrome is when the female chromosome is lacking one more. There is only X instead of XX. There are cases when the 2nd X chromosome is incomplete, that is also considered TS.

It is said that only women develop the said condition. Men don't have TS. It occurs in about 1 out of 2,000 births.
