what causes ovarian failure? is this treatable?

BabyRuthth - June 24th, 2010 4:04 PM

This can sometimes be caused by radiation or cancer treatments. Or it can be because of amenorhea. It is still possible to get pregnant with hormone therapy but the chances are slim.

Yes, it can be treated, nowadays the thorough research has been conducted and we are very lucky to have this modern technology. There are some medicinal treatments which are now being use.

This is good news indeed! My friend is undergoing treatment for her ovaries after a round of chemo for her breast cancer!

So this is usually caused by chemo? I am very concerned since my sister had undergone chemo for her leukemia a while back. She is still 32 now and single. It's good that you mentioned it so that I can tell her this.

it can be because of chemo or other treatments like IVF and medications like clomid. Remember that the ovaries need to be stimulated so the influx of hormones can cause ovaries to fail. it is a risk associated with these types of treatments.

My sister's left ovary was taken out because it is said that there was a cyst
we were thinking that she may no longer have infertility but to the amazement of the doctor she was able to have one more a healthy baby.

good for your sister.

ovaries are important because they produce the egg which is what females need in order for the sperm to fertilize it. good news that such failures can be overcome.

side question: if you had cancer, would you consider freezing your ovaries before treatment?
