can chemo mess up fertility? if so how bad? a friend is scheduled to undergo 6 rounds of chemo and she is worried it can screw up her chances of having a family in the future

this is something that needs to be discussed with her doctors as chemo can have a positive effect on the cancer but a negative effect on some of the organs in the body.

Yes, according to a certain studies, chemotherapy has many side effects and one of it is having problems with infertility.

Yes. Chemotherapy can destroys cancer cells. But normal cells in person's blood, mouth, intestinal tract and even vagina. So, chemotherapy surely affects them.

Chemotherapy may damage some of her eggs in her ovaries and may cause her periods to become irregular to stop. But it doesn't mean she can't anymore be pregnant in the future.

Well, it depends. If your friend is in pre-menopausal before starting chemotherapy, her periods may still come back after her treatment ends. But if she's close to menopause when she starts chemo, her periods may never come and permanently infertile.

There is a possibility since chemo uses radioactivity in order to erradicate cancer cells.

Chemo would definitely destroys the cancer cells but also the fertility of a person would be affected.

the chemo theraphy has been done or invented so to burn out the cancer cells in order to stop it to spread and this is the reason why it can cause infertility. the burning of the cancer cells is the reason that the fertility would be vanished.
