what is a bicornuate uterus?

Fred_Flintstone - October 30th, 2010 3:25 AM

"A bicornuate uterus or bicornate uterus, commonly referred to as a "heart-shaped" uterus, is a type of uterine malformation where two "horns" form at the upper part of the uterus."

Got that from Wikipedia. Women with this condition are usually at risk for miscarriage.

I wonder why a heart shaped uterus would cause a miscarriage?

I had heard about this and saw pictures in the internet. Not all women miscarry if they have a bicornate uterus. There are those who are able to carry full term.

I am not entirely sure what's wrong with a heart shaped uterus but I think with this one you get two cavities instead of one. This is the reason why it is hard to get pregnant.
