Chlamydia
Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted parasite
that often produces no outward symptoms. If left undetected in women it can lead to
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) which in turn can create blockages in the
fallopian tubes from scar tissue. In men it can cause inflammation of the testes
and the tubes surrounding them.
To test for Chlamydia, physicians are likely
to take cervical swabs and/or blood antibody tests.
Treatment for Chlamydia itself is in the form
of very strong antibiotics.
Tubal damage is detected during either a
laparoscopy or a
hysterosalpingogram. Tuboplasty may be appropriate to correct
the damage.
